May Yul-Edochie, the estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has filed a ₦1.5 billion lawsuit before the Lagos State High Court against her former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, Linc Edochie’s former girlfriend, Yinka Omolola Theisen, and several unidentified social media users over alleged cyberbullying, defamation and the unlawful disclosure of private information.
In the suit, May is asking the court to order the removal of social media accounts and posts she claims were used to harass her and damage her reputation. She is also seeking an order directing social media platforms to release information that would help identify anonymous account operators allegedly involved in the campaign against her.
According to a 126-paragraph affidavit filed in support of the suit, the claimant alleged that she has been subjected to sustained online harassment for several years by the defendants, as well as operators of various blogs and Facebook pages.
She claimed the publications contained false allegations, manipulated photographs, insulting caricatures, AI-generated images, death wishes and other content allegedly designed to ridicule her, tarnish her image and expose her to public contempt.
May further alleged that despite serving legal notices on some of the defendants in 2025 demanding the removal of the offending publications, the alleged defamatory campaign continued, with new social media accounts reportedly created to sustain the attacks.
She also accused her former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, of breaching client confidentiality by disclosing private information shared with him during the course of his legal representation. According to the suit, she alleged that he published materials she described as false, misleading and defamatory.
The claimant is seeking ₦1 billion in damages against Ugwuonye and ₦500 million against Yinka Theisen. She is also asking the court to compel social media platforms to identify and disclose details of the anonymous users allegedly behind the online campaign.
Justice Abdul-Raheem Tejumade Muyideen has directed that the court processes be served on the defendants through all known contact channels. The case was subsequently adjourned for a report on the service of the processes.
