Troops Arrest Suspected Chadian Drug Courier, Seize Illicit Consignment Allegedly Bound for Terrorists
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have intercepted a suspected foreign drug courier and recovered a large cache of illicit substances and other prohibited items believed to be intended for terrorist groups operating within the Lake Chad Islands.
According to the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Goni, the recovered items include seven compressed bundles of suspected cannabis weighing about 30 kilogrammes, two 10-litre containers of hydromercuric chloride, commonly known as “Suck and Die”, one carton containing 48 bottles of dry gin, and 61 bottles of herbal alcoholic beverages. He added that the seized items are estimated to be worth millions of naira on the black market.
Security operatives also recovered a mobile phone, two Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards, cash, and other personal belongings from the suspect.
Goni disclosed that the suspect is currently being held in military custody, while all recovered exhibits have been secured and will be handed over to the appropriate law enforcement agency for further investigation and prosecution in line with existing laws.
He said the successful interception underscores Operation Hadin Kai’s resolve to cut off terrorist groups from the logistics and supplies that enable their operations.
The military further noted that intelligence reports have consistently shown that terrorist groups rely on illicit drugs and intoxicants to embolden fighters, suppress fear, and facilitate violent attacks. It said the operation disrupted a critical supply chain by preventing the consignment from reaching its intended destination.
Operation Hadin Kai also commended the vigilance and professionalism of its troops, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining relentless operations against terrorists and those who support their activities.
