Governor Alex Otti has renamed the dualised Tower–Onuimo Road in honour of the late renowned cleric, Rev. Uma Ukpai, as part of activities marking his administration’s third anniversary.
The late evangelist, who recently died and was buried in his country home, was honoured for his contributions to faith, humanitarian service, and national development.
Speaking during the commissioning of several road projects across Umuahia North and Umuahia South LGAs, Governor Otti said the renaming of the reconstructed and expanded Tower–Onuimo Road to “Uma Ukpai Way” was aimed at immortalising the respected preacher’s legacy.
He also announced that the Ahiaeke–Okwuta–Bende Road had been renamed “J.O.J Okezie Road” in honour of another prominent son of the state.
According to the governor, the newly reconstructed roads were previously in deplorable condition but have now been rebuilt with solar-powered street lights, drainage systems, and road markings to improve safety and durability.
The commissioned projects include Orpet–Umuafai–Lodu–Ahiaeke–Ndume Road, Ahiaeke–Okwuta–Bende Road, Madonna–Enyiukwu–Afara Ring Road, Justice Okoroafor Close in Afara, Library Avenue Road connecting Club Road, Umubioko–Amakama Road, Nsukwe–Umuogo Road, and the newly renamed Uma Ukpai Way.
Governor Otti commended Craneburg Construction Company for the quality execution of the Tower–Onuimo Road and Orpet–Umuafai–Lodu–Ahiaeke–Ndume Road projects.
He stated that the projects would improve traffic flow and drive socio-economic development across the benefiting communities, while also appreciating residents for their patience during the reconstruction period.
